Kenrick-Glennon Society
Situation
Forming priests for over 100 years, Kenrick-Glennon Seminary is
known as one of the most distinguished Roman Catholic seminaries in
the United States. The Seminary used a parish collection strategy
for decades to support operating expenses, and an annual Christmas
Appeal provided substantial support. Gifts, however, declined over
a five-year period. No consistent development strategy was in place
to seek and cultivate individual donors.
Goal
Prepare a development strategy to acquire individual gifts to
the Seminary. Attract major donors and cultivate and sustain
relationships with those committed to the mission of the Seminary.
Prepare for a future capital campaign.
Strategy
Sustain efforts through annual parish donations. Create and
structure recognition for a major donor society. Invite new
participants to give directly to the Seminary, while encouraging
local giving through parishes as well.
Impact
Increased contributed revenue by 50% over a four-year period.
Maintained program expenses at a fixed level while increasing
donations. Tested new avenues for acquisition beyond direct mail to
expand audiences at critical times of the year. Supported a $50
million capital campaign with $60 million in pledges in 2009.
